Obituary of Winnie Coombes

Margaret Winnifred 'Winnie’ Coombes Glace Bay It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Winnie Coombes, age 97, on May 28, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Lorne, NS, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Lavine (Gunn) Cox. Mum was the heart, the soul and the rock of our family. Winnie is survived by her loving children, Barbara (Charles) Butts, John ‘Jackie’, Blaine (Carolyn), Gordon, Susan (Merrill), Margaret (Stephen), Peter (Pamela), Paul (Laura), William (Tracey), Pamela (Chris), John Morgan (Alana); daughter-in-law, Ann Coombes; 16 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Roland ‘Rollie’ Coombes; son, Roland ‘Rollie’; her brothers, John (Helen) Cox, Aulden (Alice) Cox; daughter-in-law, Linda (McKenzie) Coombes; good friends, brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Lillian Coombes. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2022 at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199) with Jack Ettinger officiating. Burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Horizon Achievement Centre, Down Syndrome Society or a charity of one’s choice.
