Obituary of Helga Kohler Cunningham
Please share a memory of Helga to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Helga Kohler Cunningham, age 74 of Halifax, passed away on April 14th, 2022. Born in Lunenburg, Helga was the daughter of the late Capt. Henry Kohler, CM and Laney Himmelman Kohler.
Helga spent her life in a variety of pursuits but undoubtedly the one she found the most rewarding and fulfilling was the 24 years she spent as a volunteer with the not-for-profit society Halifax Lancers. In 1998, Helga joined Lancers as an Adult Beginner having never before ridden a horse. Two years later she became a volunteer with the Lancers group which provides horseback riding for children and young adults with disabilities. Helga was never happier than when she was securing the large variety of supplies the barn requires or turning her hand to the myriad of maintenance tasks.
Helga is survived by her husband of 51 years, Capt. Peter Cunningham, their daughter Elizabeth of Izmir, Turkey, an architect working with an international group of designers dedicated to the support of vulnerable communities, and her sister Karla Kohler Whiley of Cape Town, South Africa.
