The 8th of 12 children, Reta has four surviving siblings, older sisters, Mazie and Doris; younger brothers, Bruce and Louie. Reta was married to John DeBlois Boyd for 50 plus years before his passing in 2011. Often referred to as her ‘Greatest Treasure’, Reta’s sons, John Douglas, Gregory and Paul are also left to mourn and honor her memory. Her light will also live on in several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom was an adventurer, mentor, published writer and favorite teacher to many as she spent over 35 years nurturing Halifax’s youth. Reta was a devoted competitor, handler and breeder of German Shepherd dogs under the Kennel Prefix of Blackcrest. She held many voluntary positions in the dog world in Nova Scotia and nationally. But mostly known as the driving force of the Nova Scotia German Shepherd Dog Club for over 60 years. Many will remember Reta for her dog training classes and time spent judging obedience and rally trials. Many thanks for the fantastic care and compassion from the staff at Northwood, Bedford.
