William Wallace McCarthy “Wally”
Jan. 9, 1947- Jan. 4, 2019
With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Father Wally, who died peacefully
at home in the North End of Halifax; where he was born, grew up and loved with all his heart.
Survived by his loving daughters, Kim, (Ex-husband Rickey) and Kerri (Ray) and his
grandchildren Kevin, Ryan, Kory, Kelby, and Mia who loved him dearly. Loving Uncle to his
sister’s children Michelle (Mike), Richard (Shelley), and Kathy (Todd) as well as many
members of the Ramey Family. He will also be dearly missed by his wife of 30 years Joanne.
Predeceased by his parents Bill and Jean, Nanny Pearl and his beautiful only sister Susan. He
shared an unbreakable bond with her and without a doubt she is welcoming him with open arms
and is now cheering him on in a game of baseball with Babe Ruth and all the other greats that
have passed!
Wally’s life passion was sports. He played baseball for numerous teams for many years
spending countless weekends at The Commons and in tournaments. The only thing he loved
more than playing sports was talking and debating about sports! So much so that he even
created and ran sports trivia contests for many years.
Besides sports Wally also had a passion for music and movies that he lovingly passed down to
his daughters.
Walldog touched so many lives whether it be on the sports fields, working for Oland’s Brewery,
golfing and chatting up the crew at Indian Lake Golf Course or talking sports over a few beer
with his crew at Jenny’s Place. There are truly too many to mention. He always had a nickname
for everyone and had a way of making you feel special.
Please join us in a Celebration of Life for Dad on Wednesday, January 9th from 2-4 PM (or
longer) at Jenny’s Place Pub on Lady Hammond Rd. We will be having an open mic and
welcome your special memories and stories.
In lieu of flowers please grab a kid and have a game of catch with them in Wally’s honor and or
donate to The Halifax Little league. A special thank you to Troy Slaunwhite, who is like family,
we are so grateful for all you have done.
In Wally’s honor please raise a glass and lets celebrate with a “Giddy Up”.
