William 'Bill' James Jefferson
Sydney
It is with the deepest sadness that Paul and I announce the very sudden passing of our older brother Bill on November 6, 2021.
Born in Van Nuys, California, in 1962, he was the son of the late William and Nancy Jefferson.
Well, to say he was a soldier would be an understatement. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1981 where he was a proud member of 36 Svc. Battalion, transport division, and was still serving although he was “retired.”
Bill travelled all over this world although he didn’t see battle, he saw battle as a humanitarian. Bill served in Germany, Croatia, Haiti, Bosnia, and was stationed on many CF bases, such as; Trenton, Ont., Petawawa, Shilo, Alert, Newfoundland, Gagetown, Trenton, N.S. and there is probably more than I remember. Bill wore the medals of his missions with great pride upon his chest and kept friends and comrades closer.
In 2015 Bill moved home to “retire” here in Sydney. He moved in with his brother Paul, they were inseparable and they had a lot in common. They also became members of Branch 12 Legion.
Bill continued to work part-time with the commissionaires, Carabin’s, and the Reserves. He was to “officially” retire on November 19, 2021 with 41 years of service.
Bill leaves behind myself, Coleen Cipak (Eric), and brother Paul Jefferson. He was a loving and gentle uncle to Ashley O’Handley (Anthony), Stephen Cipak (Alicia), Jordan Cipak (Candace) and Paul’s son James. He was also a loving great uncle to my grandchildren, Bailey, Olivia, and Charlotte.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Bill will be held on Saturday, November 13,2021 from 12-1 p.m., with a service to follow at 1 p.m., at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. Military Chaplan Fr. Patrick O’Neill will be presiding. A private interment will take place at Oakfield Cemetery in Mira.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Legion Poppy Fund.
