Obituary of Albert Tanguay

Cdr. Albert D. Tanguay C.D. Ret'd. M.A., Age 78, Halifax It is with great sadness we announce the death of Albert Damien Tanguay, 78, at the Halifax Infirmary on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. After several years of declining health, Albert died peacefully with his wife, Charlotte by his side. Born in Croydon, United Kingdom on April 24, 1943, to Aurel and Marguerite Tanguay, Albert is survived by his wife and partner of 52 years, Charlotte (nee Doyle); children André, Keswick, Ont., and Gilles (Sacha), Vancouver, B.C,; grandchildren Damien, Mateo, and Alexander, whom Papa lovingly referred to as his “little angels”. He also leaves behind two brothers: Jean, Amherst NS and Robert, Beaumont, Qc and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. A 35-year career began in the Navy at age 17 as a leading seaman, served on eight ships, and eventually advanced to Captain of HMCS Gatineau. He completed his service as base administration officer at CFB Halifax. Upon retirement he fulfilled his lifelong dream. He obtained an undergraduate and then a master’s degree in political science from Dalhousie University. Thereafter, he was invited to teach history, ethics, and strategy for the Royal Military College for 13 years. Albert enjoyed teaching. Today he is remembered for his capacity to encourage people to be their best. Albert, an avid reader, was also a sports fan. The football and baseball games were a source to a continuous flow of daily emails and bantering between himself, Andre, and Gilles and, particularly when it concerned the Blue Jays. He curled for many years in Sackville, and later, began lawn bowling in Bedford. He became a fixture within the lawn bowling club and nurtured long-lasting friendships. His sense of humor will be remembered fondly. The family would like to acknowledge the special place in their hearts for all those who worked in Home Dialysis. For the past four years, they were always there with big smiles and lots of help. They made a difference. Big thanks also to the doctors and nurses of 8.1 of the Infirmary and to his nieces Deborah Hanusiak, Lynn Briand, and Julie McWhinney for their continuous support.
