So sad to hear. I consider Al one of my mentor. When he was Combat Officer in HMCS OTTAWA, he took the time to school me in ship administration. Later when I was on Squadron Staff, I got to interact with him when he was SSO Sea Ops. I concur with other who commented - he was a fair leader and a hard worker, and he did have a wicked sense of humour. You will be missed old friend. RIP.

Sad to hear of Al’s passing, a name I never used to his face, he was always ‘Captain’. Al was excellent to work for; forthright, honest, supportive, and held us all accountable, and oh so quiet. Which was also how I remember him from the HURON, just a heck of a gentleman.

Charlotte, I am so glad we were able to talk yesterday. We tried to navigate this contraption but it must be well beyond my tech abilities.Sharon and I send our condolences to you and the boys and we are proud to have been your friends for some 40 years. I worked for Albert twice, one as a seagoing ships officer and for him as base admin in the late 80 s. I always thought of him as a straight shooter.

I worked for Cdr Tanguay in Stadacona in the early 90's. A fine boss, a fine man, and a pleasure to serve with. He had a dry and wicked sense of humour. What I remember about him the most was his fierce support of all things related to the lower deckers. An ethical and dedicated Naval officer, I am sorry that he has left us. Fair winds and following seas, my colleague and my friend.

Albert was the best next door neighbour to have had. When Hurricane Juan hit and we had not running water, he pulled over his hose so we could have water at any time. Phil loved conferring with him about outdoor projects and sharing achievements. Seeing the gardens you Al and Charlotte left behind will always be a comfort. He was always upbeat despite his health challenges in later years. We will miss him.

It is Great sadness I here of the passing of the Good Cdr, we served together twice once when he was Staff Operations Officer and then again when I was the Base Chief Petty Officer and was the Formation's Admin Officer. He was a very intelligent man who had great vison and a common sense approach to all things. I8 believe that came from him being lower decker first.
RIP Shipmate we have the Watch
