Obituary of Allan Robert Skerry

Please share a memory of Allan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 79 of Sackville/New Ross, peacefully passed away at home July 22nd surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Ross on March 26, 1942, he was the eldest son of the late Franklin and Marjorie (Veinott) Skerry. Dad was employed as a carpenter in his early years in Halifax, graduating from Nova Scotia Institute of Technology with an Architectural Drafting certificate from the Halifax Vocational School. After several years in the construction industry Dad joined the C.M.H.C group as a compliance inspector traveling throughout Nova Scotia, after which he went with the City of Halifax where he spent 30 years as a Certified Building Inspector until his retirement in 1997. He was among the first group of building inspectors to be certified by the Department of Municipal Affairs of Nova Scotia. He was a life member of the building Inspectors association of Nova Scotia. Dad spent the next four years working with the Provincial Fire Marshal office as a Building Plans Examiner. During this working time he was a long member of the Kinsman &K40 Club of Sackville, and he was a member of the Airlane golf club, enjoying every game he played with his good buddy Ken. Dad was very proud to support the Red Cross, Canadian Blood Services with his 150 donations of blood. He loved being outside, and he was excited to get out to a favorite lake fishing with his two nephews, Wendall and Glen, or tramping through the woods of New Ross in the fall looking for the Big Buck. Dad loved to go camping on the summer and enjoyed his old 1956 Ford car. The most important thing in Dads life was his family, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching them participate in all of their daily activities and sporting events, he was their biggest fan and was so proud of their accomplishments. He is survived by his son, Kevin (Krista); daughter, Melanie (Byron Corkum), of Sackville; their mother, Donna Skerry, of New Ross; godson, Johnathan McDow, of New Ross; sister, Lorna Skerry, of Florida, and Roxy McCauley, of Bridgewater. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Trinity, and Ryland. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Marian Hughes, of Halifax, Freda McDow, of Lunenburg, Irene Drennan, of Toronto, and brother, Arthur, of Vancouver. Dad, along with our family, would like to extend our sincerest appreciation and thanks to Dr. Lori Wood and Nurse Donna for their incredibly compassionate and supportive care. Arrangements have been entrusted to T. J.
