Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Harold (Bud) Colp of Bedford, passed away peacefully in the Dartmouth General Hospital on July 20, 2021 at the age of 88. He was born in Halifax to the late Harold and Marguerite (Maggie) Colp. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Bud began his career with Coca Cola, retiring after 42 years at the age of 60. He then went to work at Nova Hardwood Flooring for the next 14 years, finally deciding it was time to fully retire and enjoy the next chapter of life. He enjoyed walking every day, and belonged to Senior skating clubs, where he attended many rinks in the HRM. He made lots of friends at the Bedford rink (his skating buddies). Bud was a self taught craftsman, building his first home in Bedford where his family still resides. He also built a number of cottages on Lewis Lake, including his own, taking great pride in each and every one. He and Rita spent their summers at the cottage, enjoying all the visits from family and friends. Bud was a true gentleman, never shy to tell his age. He went to sleep with a smile and woke up with a smile every day. He was a kind hearted man who loved life to the fullest. He enjoyed meeting new people, where he could find out who they were, where they were from and what they did for a living, in the first few minutes of their conversation. Bud would always tell everyone that he was a 7, 12 and 5 o’clock guy, referring to mealtimes. He is survived by the love of his life of 63 years Rita (Kean); daughters, Heather (Geoff Ashcroft) and Barbara (Darrell Cameron); Grandchildren, Jason (Caitlin) Ashcroft, Kristy (Brad) Dicks; Great-grandchildren, Kenzie and Bryson Ashcroft, Willow and Burton Dicks and grand-kitty Tigger. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, most notably Colleen. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sisters, Thelma Clattenburg and Sheila Fullerton. Special thanks to the staff of the Dartmouth General Hospital, 5th Floor East, for their kindness and compassion given to Bud while he was in their care. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Ashton, Family Doctor, for all his home visits and calls. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bud can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private celebration of Bud’s life will be held by invitation only.
