Obituary of Fred Best

Please share a memory of Fred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Fred Best Glace Bay Not, "How did he die?" but " How did he live?" Not, "What did he gain?" but "What did he give?" These are the units to measure the worth, Of a man as a man, regardless of birth. We are heartbroken to announce the peaceful passing of Frederick Thomas Best on April 21, 2021 at Taigh Na Mara. Fred was born and raised in Glace Bay and was the son of the late Thomas and Verna Best. In his earlier years, Fred enjoyed his fishing trips to Framboise, watching his Leafs on Saturday night, enjoying a coffee and a catch up with the crowd at Mike’s Lunch and long Sunday drives to nowhere. He loved a good game of cards, a hot cup of tea and spending time with his family. He will be extremely missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Marilyn, his devoted daughter Susan MacDonald, son in law Darren and grandson Owen, his pride and joy. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister Judith, brothers Terry and Bruce. Those that knew Fred and called him friend or were part of his extended family were given a huge gift and they will also feel the weight of his absence. His kind heart and love for those around him will always be with us. Those who knew Fred knew he didn’t like being the center of attention and would rather give than to receive. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of T.J Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists and there will be no formal service or visitation. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, the SPCA or a charity of your choice. We would like to thank the staff of Waterford Heights and Taigh Na Mara for the excellent care, kindness and patience you have shown Fred the last three years. We are so grateful that we had you all as part of his team on this journey. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff of T.J Tracey’s for being so accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.
