Eulalia F. ‘Layla’ Murphy Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Layla Murphy, age 88, on March 23, 2021 at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Clarke and Catherine Roberts. For many years, our mother was engaged in many recreational activities such as skating, darts and camping. She enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends. She had the ability to remember every funny thing that she was a part of throughout her long life and enjoyed sharing stories. Layla is survived by her three loving sons, Jim (Darlean), Kevin (Nancy) and Rick (Melanie); her wonderful grandchildren, Kayla, Jenna, Lisa, Wendy and Melanie; nine precious great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. She is also survived by her sister, Josephine (Ron) Matheson; brothers, John Roberts and Angus (Marie) Roberts; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert Murphy; husband and father of her children, Jim Whiting; daughter Kathy in infancy, daughter and caregiver, Sharon Myra; grandson, Glenn; brothers, John Hugh, Rannie and Bill Roberts; sisters-in-law, Mary and Myrtle. Her entire family would like to thank the management and staff of Taigh Na Mara, level 2, for the compassion and respect they showed her during her stay. Her three sons would never be forgiven by her if we did not give a special thanks to Dr. Kent Cadegan for approximately 40 years; he was relentless in his dedication to her well being.
