Obituary of Gloria Ann Gillis

Gloria peacefully passed in the night, at the Admiral Long Term Care Centre in Dartmouth, on March 19, 2020, in her 92nd year. Gloria was the daughter of the late, Laura and Alex Gillis.
She is survived by her only daughter, Sharon McCready, Bedford; grandson, Dr. Colin McCready, Calgary, and the Gillis family, Sydney Forks.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Douglas Flood, in 1979, and her second husband, Fraser Gillis, in 2006.
Gloria’s educational career was in Cape Breton, first as a teacher in Johnstown School and then for more than 30 years, principal and teacher in Portage School. She is very fondly remembered by many of her students and the community at large.
In 2010, Gloria moved from Sydney Forks to Halifax where she lived with her daughter, Sharon. In 2014, she moved into the Berkeley, Bedford. Supported by the wonderful staff, she was at home there. When her health began to fail, she was very lucky in late December 2020, to be warmly welcomed into the Admiral, where the entire staff kept watch over her.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Ignatius Church in Bedford on April 8, 2021 at 2 p.m. Attendance by invitation only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton SPCA.
