Obituary of Sadie Cecilia Jamieson

With sadness we announce that our sweet country girl at heart, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the age of 92. By way of Hazel Hill, Guysborough and Halifax; wife of Joe (predeceased 2007), mother of three sons, Reid, Joe Jr. and Jim; grandmother to Sheena, Jon, Stephanie, Jay, Ashlee, Colin and Tracy; great grandmother to Olivia, Emily, Maverik, Hannah, Caleb and Noah. Spouses Darlene (Reid), Kate (Joe Jr.) and Susan (Jim). Survived by sisters Peggy (Shute, New Jersey), Gladys (Woodburn, BC) and Jean (Clarke, NS) and predeceased by Brothers Neil, Dig (John) and Doug (Rossong) , Sisters Marjorie (Kiley) Bertina (Pace), Pearl (Boyd) and Edna (Smith). Starting life in Hazel Hill, NS as one of the swarm of Feltmate girls and boys born to Katie and Jack (Pup) Feltmate and from the days at the tiny Hazel Hill schoolhouse to skating on Kiley’s Lake to sleeping “several” in a bed, Sadie learned early in life that indeed times might be harsh but the love and closeness of family was all that was required to enjoy life to the fullest! From the early days in Hazel Hill when her young boys…all well behaved and never giving her any trouble of course…would drag home whatever ragamuffins they had in tow for an ice cream cone, a cookie or simply a piece of the most delicious homemade bread (or biscuits!) on the planet! Not much changed after moving the family to Guysborough in the early 60”s when for many years to come any and all family, friends or complete strangers were welcomed with open arms and seated at the kitchen table for a cup of tea, a full blown meal or just a slice (or two) of that famous homemade bread….with molasses preferably and if you were considered a special guest you might just be treated to Sadie’s world famous foxberry jam; accompanied by a story for sure and always a laugh! On any given day Sadie would be following the trail of “crumbs” to be cleaned up after husband Joe made his way from the dinner table to the lazy boy accompanied by a handful of whatever deserts might be on the menu that day. “When you going to cut the pie Missus?” was always a familiar refrain but a handful of cookies, a mega slice of war cake or his favorite; fruit cake; the portion size commonly referred to by all of us as a “door stop”, would also suffice. Oh yes; cereal bowls of ice cream or strawberry shortcake with those best biscuits on the planet worked nicely as well. True love for sure! Sadie Jamieson held no malice or ill will against any human or other living creature in this world. Her life’s work was spent helping others through her work at the seniors home in Hazel Hill, the Guysborough Hospital and travelling around Guysborough County providing home care and compassion to those in need. Always thinking of others before herself, a gentle soul, most always keeping her thoughts and emotions to herself, she was genuinely loved and respected by family and friends alike. Of course many of her escapades came with a story or two …only some of which could be repeated in public! Gladly provided babysitting services for grandkids, great grandkids, nieces, nephews and any other stray in the vicinity…then sending them home after being filled with mounds of homemade cookies, pie, bread, rolls…well; you get the picture! Sadie, now that you are back with your long lost family and friends, have a round of golf with your bosom buddy Benny Hadley (now there was a pair to be reckoned with!), enjoy that cup of tea and maybe a feed of herring and potatoes with your beloved brother Dig. Have a laugh with your dear sisters and brothers…you deserve it after the relentless darkness of Alzheimer’s took away that sweet, kind person we all knew and loved. We will remember only the good times you gave all of us. Joe Sr….Your Sara is with you again….look after her for all eternity. The family would like to thank the staff at the Shannex Parkstone Enhanced Care facility and offer our sincere appreciation for the professionalism and compassion you showed every day for Sadie and all those sweet souls in your care, all facing the darkness and confusion of dementia and infirmities that so limit their lives. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or charity of your choice. There will be no religious/church ceremony at Sadie’s request. The family will hold a Celebration of Life ceremony at some time later in the year once arrangements can be made and can deal with whatever pandemic restrictions etc. might still be in place.
