Campbell, Susie Marie
Glace Bay
It is with our deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend Susie Marie Campbell from Glace Bay on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at the Glace Bay Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Glace Bay, Susie was the daughter of the late Wilson and Lillian (Deering) Smith.
Susie is survived by her loving husband, Neil; Son, Bradley Penney (Marie Popwell); Granddaughters, Hanna, Abby, Emma; Stepson, Charles “Chuck” (Jennifer); Sisters, Lillian (Bubby), Betty (Peter),Dorothy (John), Mary (Greg), Shelia (Glenn); Brothers, John “Dewey” (Marie), Jim (Jayney), Robert (Dean) and many nieces, nephews, as well as many more loving family members and friends.
Besides her parents, Susie was predeceased by her first husband Gary Penney; brother Wilson Smith Jr. and sister Violet “Sissy” Strong.
Susie loved Table Head dearly, being the community she was raised in, it always held a special place in her heart, where many of her family and friends still reside. The major part of Susie’s working career was the 23 years she spent as a Federal Government employee in Glace Bay and Sydney. The holiday season was her favorite time of year, and she spent countless hours baking sweets for family and friends, delivering presents, and hosting a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner for her family. Susie adored the beach, where she spent much of her time watching the waves rolling into the shore.
Susie was a kind and gentle soul, with a deep faith in God. Her friends and family will deeply miss her visits, to which she always brought her delicious homemade treats. She was a dedicated member of her community, and enjoyed participating in Table Head Day events.
Susie’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to the Palliative Care Unit and Nursing Staff at Glace Bay Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Susie’s memory can be made to The Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
