Richard "Ricky" Allan MacKillop
Glace Bay
We, the family of Richard ‘Ricky’ Allan MacKillop, are heartbroken to announce the passing of our amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend. Dad passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 15 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with our beautiful Mom by his side.
He was born in Glace Bay, NS on January 16, 1953 to the late Angus and Muriel MacKillop.
Dad was an incredibly gifted carpenter who enjoyed doing everything for his family. Ricky was employed with Devco Railway for 27 years until he retired in 2000. After retirement Dad loved to travel especially to visit Richelle and family in California. The last few years he enjoyed becoming a snow bird with Mom and his wonderful friends in Myrtle Beach. He spent all of his summers at the cottage where he loved to visit his many friends on the lane and go for an afternoon ride on the Prince Robin. In his spare time, he loved to dance with Mom, cook, play baseball, darts, pool, hunt and spend time with his beautiful grandchildren.
Dad loved his family very much and was so proud of the life he and mom made together. His three daughters were all Daddy’s girls... we all thought we were his favorite, and he would tell each of us that we were, but not to tell the others. Dad made sure we all knew how much he loved us, but no one could quite compare to mom... she was his best friend, she was his everything!
Dad is survived by our mom, his loving wife, Deborah of 49 years. She put the twinkle in his eyes every single day. His three daughters who loved him so much, Deanne (Sandy)’Polock’ Michalik , the son he never had, of Albert Bridge, Richelle (Ryan) Mason of San Jose, California and Devon MacKillop (Michael O’Brien) of Glace Bay.
He absolutely adored his seven beautiful grandchildren. He was so proud of each of them. Jami and Morgan Michalik, Cody and Jadyn Mason, Logan Mills, and Mikah and Rikki-Lynn (poppy’s princess) O’Brien. Dad is also survived by his lifelong best friend, who he did everything with, “his brother” Joey (Wendy) Saccary, aunts, uncles, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many great friends.
Ricky was the last remaining member of his immediate family.
The family would like to thank the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the nursing staff on 4B especially BJ Greychuck RN, Dr. McCarville, Dr. Fashir, and the wonderful cleaning staff. A special thanks to Dorothy Curnew.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ricky’s memory can be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
