Dear Deb.and family, the last few days have been filled with sorrow & tears..Ricky Was like a younger brother to our family… I am forever grateful to have had him in our lives and when we (the Blacks next door ) Came back to the Homestead in early 2000 to fix the family home Ricky and my late husband Spent almost every evening in our so-called “guys clubhouse”they welcomed all who came up the hill and there were many stories to be told it was a time in our lives that we will forever cherish .when we had our family reunion ..Ricky and Harold were the chefs and when we came back in 2008 Ricky was a great help keeping my husband occupied after his stroke ..the memories go on & on & I hope his friends post more .Steve & Tricia ,brother John and Bonnie are heartbroken Rick and Deb visited them in Ontario and they remain friends from childhood… My sisters all loved Ricky and send their love to the family. we spent 3 months back at our Homestead & last 2019 sat in our kitchen with Steve & Ricky ..John McPhee posted a memory and yes John that was on our porch where many stories were told.. where I am a widow now I find that keeping the candles lit and listening to memories from my friends and family I have kept the past in my heart God bless Ricky and may he rest in peace with all of the love ones that have gone before us .hope we all find peace in that ...xoxo
every evening

My deepest condolences to the MacKillop family. Ricky and his family were our next door neighbors all of our lives. As the youngest daughter of Frank and Sadie Black I grew up with Ricky the first 14 years of my life before moving to Boston. We are the same age and went to school together. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. May he rest in peace.

I offer my condolences to Deborah and family. I'm one of the MacPhee's from across the street who is just a bit younger than Ricky. I delivered the CB Post and coal to the family house, but also played hockey on little pond with Ricky and the neighbours. He was a good guy. I remember borrowing some hockey gear for an important game, and sitting in the sun on Mrs. Black's veranda, with Allister, watching him and his parents in all their finery heading for the wedding. Mrs Black just kept mentioning how young he was. During one of my trips home he was on crutches because of the incident with the lawn mower, and was angry because he knew better. He sat with me in my parents garage to tell the story of feeding the bird that Lloyd had rescued. He felt bad about that. I complemented him on the home he built with the great view. He accepted graciously but in his gift for understatement said "it caught the wind at times in the winter". There's also just a flood of 50+ year old memories of seeing him almost daily in the neighbourhood. Altogether too young. John MacPhee

Deborah and family - no words can express the feelings for such a great loss to your family. You’ve been friends of our family for many many years. Being the youngest of ours and just moving back to Cape Breton, we’ve been privileged to be in the company of yours on a couple of occasions. Gerry and I were hoping to have many more get togethers as we enjoyed such pleasant company. You’re in our hearts and prayers.
