Obituary of Geraldine Margaret Elizabeth Mitchell
Please share a memory of Geraldine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 92 years young of Halifax Nova Scotia.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother on Thursday, December 3rd 2020 at Northwood, Halifax.
Gerry was born in Halifax; she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Bridget (Nee, Clergy) James.
Gerry worked at Sears, Halifax for many years. She loved playing her piano and being outdoors. She enjoyed swimming and spending time in her garden planting flowers and vegetables at her Cottage in Glen Haven. Gerry was very active, singing and performing skits with the Northwood Players under the direction of Shirley Burnstein, where she met her soulmate, Bill Kelly. Gerry directed The Golden Age Choir in Spryfield for a number of years. Music and painting were a couple of Gerry's Passions. Gerry was an active Cub Leader when her boys were young, and she volunteered helping seniors and the disabled and was presented with an award as “Volunteer of the Year”, from the city of Halifax. Mom was a strong and determined lady. She focussed on raising her family of eight children and was known as a “second Mom” to many children in the neighbourhood. Mom was always ready for a good laugh and was known to many to be the life of the party. Mom would like to thank everyone who brought happiness to her life. As well, Mom would like to thank the staff at Northwood 5c, those of whom she had a special connection with.
She is survived by her children, Sharron (Jim), Lynn (Bruce), Patrick (Patricia), Rexx (Janice), James (Darlene), Danny (Leona) and Shawn; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Sidekick) James; many nieces, and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Michael and his wife, Jennifer (Bayer) Atton; daughter-in-law, Carol Atton; grandsons, Leslie Atton and Brian Atton.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 4th, 2021 at 10 am, at Saint Agnes Church, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Mom will be deeply missed.
