Obituary of Kenneth Wendell McLean

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth McLean on November 5 2020, passing peacefully surrounded by family. Born at Pictou Nova Scotia, November 8 1943 to the late John and Mary (Sis Haley) McLean. Raised and educated in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. At a young age, Ken moved to Ottawa Ontario where he trained and became a certified auto body repair technician. Ken then moved on to join Sperry Gyroscope (later Honeywell Aerospace) where he trained and became a master electro mechanical technician doing inspections, overhauls, re-fits and testing of instrumentation such as altitude indicators used on aircraft and ships of the Canadian Armed Forces. With the closure of Honeywell’s Ottawa division, and after 30 years’ service, Ken returned to NS and settled in Dartmouth where he completed his career working on the re-fit of an exploration oil platform until his retirement in 2001.   Ken had many interests. Some especially important to him such as, following the Nascar circuit and his hockey favourites The Habs.   Besides his parents, Ken was pre deceased by his brother Robert (Edith) and his brother in-law Lorenzo Arnoldin. He is survived by his sisters Cecilia Fraser (Earl) of Dartmouth and Marilyn Arnoldin, Beaver bank NS. Brothers Jack (Mitzi) Calgary, Adrian (Debbie) Dartmouth, Sister In-law Edith, Dartmouth and step-son Danny Labelle, Ottawa, ON. Also many nieces and nephews whom he truly adored as did they of him.   Ken always made everyone welcome to his home and never failed to have a fridge crisper overflowing with chocolate bars for the children.   The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the medical staff who assisted Ken during his hard fought battle. Special thanks to his QEII palliative team and Hospice Halifax for being so compassionate and caring for his wellbeing.   Arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Glace Bay, NS. Due to Covid 19, any service or celebrations will be announced at a later date.   In lieu of flowers, donations to QEII Palliative Care, Hospice Halifax or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
