Simpson, Sheila Marie Age 80 of Halifax passed away peacefully on August 29th in Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home, after a six year struggle with dementia with her husband of 61 years, Russell, by her side. Sheila worked as an administrative assistant at the Technical University of Nova Scotia and retired after 31 years of service. She was also the Secretary Treasurer of Westmoor 57 Co-op for 27 years. Along with her husband Russell she was survived by her daughters, Patricia and Sharon (Peter) and sons Michael and Earle. Granddaughters, Allison (Cory and Jillian (Ruki) and two great-grandsons Cason and Avery. She is also survived by her sisters, Louise, Freda (Perry) and Glenna, very special sister-in law Christine and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a son Steven Russell in infancy, her grandmother, Annie Helpard (Fleet) who raised her, her parents, Viola Margaret (Fleet) Tanner and John Henry Tanner, sisters Anna and Alice. Sheila’s family wish to thank all of the staff at St. Vincent’s, (5th floor) for their compassion, love and the wonderful care Sheila was given during her time there. Due to covid-19 restrictions there will be a private interment in the St. John’s Columbarium for immediate family only, officiated by Rev. Katie Taylor-Flynn. The family would appreciate any memorial donations for Sheila to be made to St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, 2080 Windsor St, Halifax, B3K 5B2. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Funeral Home.
