Dear Roxanne, Luisa and Family,
I was sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. She was a dear colleague and friend. And I know more than anything, she loved you.
I had the complete honor of meeting Johnette in 1990 when I began working with Phoenix. She was ethical, kind, fun and smart. We stayed in touch and got together to catch up and laugh often. Among my favorite Christmas ornaments are those Johnette made.
I am thinking of you and sending positive thoughts. Your Mom was great. And as one of our colleagues said to me when we talked yesterday, she's with Leo now, the love of her life.

I am so saddened to hear the news of Johnette’s death especially at this time of social distancing and family cannot be surrounded by the people who knew, respected and loved her. She was one of my favorite students at the Dal School of Social Work and I recall that we stayed in touch for several years after she graduated. She truly was an exceptional student, an amazing woman and a dedicated social worker. Sincere condolences to her family and friends. From Senator Wanda Thomas Bernard, former Professor at DSSW

To Johnette's family, my deepest sympathy, and sorry we will not be able to attend her funeral service due to Covid-19.
I remember Johnette from the old days at house parties and occasions at the Italian Club. She and husband, Leo, were a joy to watch on the dance floor. Everyone will remember Johnette's very hearty laugh. Those of us who attended her husband's funeral at St. Ignatius, Bedford, some 23 years ago, will never forget Johnette's grief - crying aloud as she walked behind his casket. So sad. All of us in the community are thinking about you at this sad time. May she rest in peace.

To Johnette’s Girls, Luisa and Roxanne,
.........and all the family too!
I have so, so many memories of the years our lives were intertwined in Bedford and when I worked for “ Whispers of Fashion” , both there and in the City, with and for your mother.
You girls were still so young then , and your mother was a “ whirlwind” ........on the go every single minute, voice lessons, buying trips,wine-making, having great parties where she would sing Patsy Gallant songs with gusto, dance with abandon and as ever ......entertain each and every one of her guests to the MAX with your dear Father quietly beaming on.
She was always up to something, wasn’t she.........and her laughter was usually what you heard even before you saw her.
She had a fantastic eye for quality, classic clothing.......and whenever I run into any old clients they never fail to remark about that, saying they had never found another Boutique like “Whispers”, in fact a lot of our clients became friends!
She truly was a unique and brave and interesting and a one of a kind woman.
She left a big impression and shall be always remembered!
My family and I send you our sincere condolences and are so very sorry for your loss. Bless you all, “Penny” Clark XO

Please accept my deepest condolences on Johnette's passing. I worked with and supervised Johnette at the Children's Aid Society/DCS. The work we did together was often difficult and at times heart breaking, but Johnette always brought kindness, humour, respect, and joy to the our job. Her laughter and singing always made our days a little easier. At the same time Johnette never lost sight of the fact that the children and families we served had to be at the center of our work and she would strongly advocate to make sure her client's voice was heard. I will miss her but I will not forget her.

I was saddened to hear of Johnette's passing. I remember when she first came to Halifax, she stayed with our family (Gus and Connie). Although I was the younger cousin and she was 14 years older, she always found some time to spend with me.
When she and Leo were living in Bedford, our family were often invited to socials and suppers. Although I remember the great food and wine, (no wine for me, I was too young), what really stands out is the laughter and the great stories. Johnette loved to joke and tease, boy could she tease you, but she could take it as well as dish it out. Some years ago our paths crossed professionally when I was working as a guidance counsellor and she was with Children's Aid. I had not seen her for a few years and I didn't know she was with Children's Aid. I certainly had no idea she was coming to the school for a visit, and she didn't know that I worked there. I heard a woman laughing down the hallway and knew immediately who it was . She was truly one of a kind. I'll always have fond memories of Johnette, and offer her family my sincere thoughts and prayers.

Remembering her kindness and light. Many laughs and giggles we shared as neighbors at the lake (Citation Drive), Hammonds Plains. And she loved the lake and its peacefulness so much. Her singing could be heard periodically and it warmed the heart. A gentle soul continues on where her presence has been called upon for something greater. Love you Johnette. (Jen & Ger xo)

Dear Luisa and Roxanne:
It is with great sadness that I extend my sincere condolences to you both for the loss of your lovely mother Johnette.
I was aware Johette was failing when we last spoke. She remembered the old times and we had a good chat. but regretfully not having been in touch for some time I was saddened to learn of her passing this morning.
I met Johnette when we had both returned to university at a mature age to achieve our BSW. Several of us in the class became good friends and your mother and I enjoyed a variety of interests. I encouraged her to join the Dal Chorale and we attended concerts together as well as rug hooking classes and other activities. She was a gentle, kind and very caring person with a twinkle in her eye and great sense of fun. We had a wonderful time one Dec. visiting Anne Rozicki in Missauga, shopping and sitting at night in our PJ's eating popcorn, and watching old B&W Xmas movies. Johnette highly valued her family and she never failed to speak so positively and proudly about her girls, your achievements, children and involvements. At this difficult time my thoughts are with you, but I hope that you too will be able to eventually take solace in the numerous and good memories of your mother Johnette. Sincerely, Jane Cowie

I was surprised and saddened to hear of your dear mum's death. I knew Johnette when I, too, worked for Phoenix House, and what struck me about her then was her innate kindness, hand-in-hand with her very direct manner. You didn't have to wonder where you stood with her, or what she thought, because she'd let you know - but always with care. She was one of the warmest-hearted people I have known, and I know your whole family will miss her. May her memory always be a blessing for you.

Johnette was absolutely everything I aspire to be when I grow older. She loved the simple things in life. She was very happy and proud of her family. She was ALWAYS smiling... and that laugh. Oh gosh how I'll miss that laugh. I can hear it now.
Johnette was hilarious. We called each other dingaling. I have no idea where she came up with it.
Johnette had infectious joy. You simply couldn't be mad or feel down around her. Heck, even at lunch time I'd be on the other side of the dining room and could her that laugh and laugh myself.
Please know how deeply she touched her Northwood friends/family's hearts. She will never be forgotten and always missed. The world lost a bright light.
