Obituary of Maureen McIntosh

Please share a memory of Maureen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anne Maureen McIntosh Glace Bay Ann Maureen McIntosh passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on August 12th, 2020. Maureen McIntosh (Murphy) was born, February 7, 1943 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. She is being welcomed into heaven by her dad and mom, George and Kathleen Murphy; her beloved sister Liz O’Keefe; much missed brother-in-law, Rudy Porga; her sweet granddaughter, Amy McIntosh; as well as other loved ones who passed before her. She is survived by her loving husband, of 59 years, William Alexander McIntosh (Bill Sr.) who always had the ability to make her laugh and to make her feel loved. She is also survived by her only child, John William McIntosh (little Billy) and Rena McIntosh of Regina, Saskatchewan. Maureen always fondly referred to him as her “pride and joy” and loved to tell stories of his military accomplishments, and his and Rena’s big hearts for kids in need. Maureen leaves behind her siblings; Joe, Theresa, Bernie, Greg, Pat, Mike and Kevin, of whom she told many enthusiastic stories about in their younger days. Maureen will also be deeply missed and forever loved by her many grandchildren; Natalie (Jeremy), Shawn (Jenna), Marc (Izrah), Madison (Jordan), Fanny, Doc, Mike Noah, Rosie, Ginny, Jaxx, Allie, Sadie, Sam, Landon and Livy. She was also a proud great-nanny to Carver, Wristyn, Rylee, Kendyl, William, Maverick, Tenley, Ellie, Sachie, Rook, Grayson and Adalyn. Maureen is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Sadie, Colleen and Bernadette. Throughout her life, Maureen led with her heart and had a gift for connecting with, and caring for, others. Being mom to little Billy and wife to Bill Sr. were her proudest titles. She was happy to attend ball games and sit in cold rinks to cheer on her boy, and she was pleased to tell stories of Bill Sr.’s coal mining days. She moved from Nova Scotia to Ontario to support Bill Sr. in his different jobs. Over the years, Maureen held different jobs of her own. The ones that stood out to her were being a crossing guard and working at the store in Number 2; her kind, soft nature and gift of connection made her a favorite amongst the neighborhood kids and she loved them just as much. When she became a nanny she enjoyed many long summers and March breaks filled with beach days, playground visits, walks to feed the geese, milkshakes, crafting, reading, movies and cuddling. Again, her thoughtful and tenderhearted nature made her a most legacy of love in the many foster children that she and Bill Sr. cared for over the years and called them “Nan and Poppy”. Each one of them left an imprint on her heart and she would smile retelling stories of how they made her laugh and how they filled her heart with joy. In remembering Maureen, lift someone up in prayer, partake in a random act of kindness or do something to make someone feel loved, and make the world a little brighter like she did each day she was in it. “Sending prayers, love you.” In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation. Maureen was always happiest when caring for her children. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., at St. Anne’s Cemetery, with Deacon Greg Murphy officiating, under the care and guidance of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. (902) 849-4199. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com.
