I met Maureen on several occasions through the years as I work in Child Welfare. We discovered during one visit that we were cousins, which we both thought was pretty cool. My dad had only one Murphy family that we were related to in Cape Breton that I knew of, which turned out to be her father. Our brothers share a lot of the same names and I think I met Greg in a class at CBU when it was UCCB. Maureen was a wonderful, kind, generous person and I admired her and her hubby greatly. Sincere condolences.... Annette Mrazek (nee Murphy).

Condolences to Maureen's family. Her brother Joe worked for my father in Halifax back in the 60's and all their family would visit my wife's, the Madden family, in Point Michaud. Donalda and I are sorry for your loss.

Condolences to Maureen's family. Iver and I were fortunate to have had Maureen touch our lives in the special gentle way that she touched people. We had the pleasure of getting to know her and we know she will be missed so much by those close to her. Our heart break for Bill Sr and Bill Jr because we know what a special person she was in their lives. She was so gracious, loving and welcoming the world is a sadder place but heaven just got an exceptional angel.

Many of my fondest memories of summer vacations as a child were spending time with Aunt Maureen and Uncle Bill at their cozy home in #2. Maureen always made Tracey and I feel welcome. Maureen was that special kind of person that always listened, never judged and never put out any negative energy (even when we were misbehaving and deserved some). I never realized at the time how rare it would be to encounter people quite that sweet. Later on when I was in school in Antigonish, Maureen provided a warm and supportive home away on many a long weekend when I needed some good home cooked meals and a calm peaceful place to study and be grounded. I know Tracey did this also before me as we both knew that spending time with Maureen & Bill was so pleasant and needed. It is not surprising that Maureen spent her life giving and providing this type of love and supports to countless people in need. She had a natural gift. The world needs more Maureen's. I will cherish my memories of her as I wish I made more in recent years.

MY SISTER
Maureen was my sister but much more, she was my best friend, my rock,
my connection to the universe, to my family, my stability, she was a home body,
a mother, a wife, a home maker, I was a roamer, rambler or meanderer . We have
always had a very special and unexplainable connection. Growing up it was always
Theresa and Maureen like one person. In our adult years living apart we
always kept a very close connection. When we would get together, when I finally settled
down and had a family, I would see that she had the same joggers or haircut even the same underwear which we had never discussed earlier, In would say to Maureen " when did you cut
your hair or when did you change your brand ? I am not talking Fashion Trends !
We were different in many respects but so much alike and connected in many more ways.
When Mom and Dad died she became the glue that keep our family connection.
The Matriarch .
Maureen lived a full family life, raising a son, Bill, Jr., and a career and later running a family business.
She adored her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren.
Maureen and Bill were like parents to both our daughter, Tracey and son, George,Jr,
during their university years, since they could not travel home on weekends, unless
it was a holiday as we were on two Islands, Maureen and Bill in Nova Scotia and George
and I in Newfoundland. They referred to Tracey as the "daughter we never had? After retiring, Maureen decided she wanted to become foster mom, Bill agreed and together they fostered, I think, 59 Special Needs Babies and Children. She was much more than a foster mom, she asked that the children call her Nan and for Bill to be called Poppy or Pops, her reasoning was that these children would eventually go for adoption or return to their biological parents and she did not want to confuse them as to who were their parents. One particular child who was in her care for over four years ( from NICU) was adopted and when introduced to her new grandparents said " no Nanny and Poppy are my grandparents ", and to this day they still are.
Maureen gave her all, to love and nurture and teach her special children in hopes
of overcoming the many physical, mental and psychological challenges in their tiny lives.
I can honestly say that she made significant and sometimes seemingly miraculous changes
in the lives of "her babies". I know this to be true because I witnessed it as it happened.
My sister is a Angel.
Maureen, you may not be physical present anymore but you will always be here.
I love you Sis.

We had the privilege of meeting Maureen over 20 years ago. She was always so kind, loving and generous with her time. She had a true gift of being able to connect with people...especially all the precious little ones she and Billy fostered over the years.
Her patience, widsom and love for children undoubtedly inspired "Little Billy" to follow in her footsteps. She is a special nanny to two of my children. We will all miss her dearly. Heaven definitely gained a beautiful Angel!
Billy, Little Billy, Rena and family, our condolences to you all. We hope the many fond memories you have of Maureen over the years carry you through the difficult days ahead.
Love,
Anne Marie, Les, Matt, Sarah, Jesse and Tay xoxoxo
