ALFERINK, David Brian Age, 56, Maplewood, Nova Scotia, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2020. He was the son of Lorraine (Williams) and the late Lambert Alferink. Dave was a veteran in the Canadian Armed Forces based out of Esquimalt; he retired in 2013 after 31 years. Upon retirement, he moved to the Annapolis Valley where he, with his wandering and independent spirit, held numerous jobs, enjoyed working around the yard landscaping and taking care of his property. He had a love and a special way with all animals but especially “CATS”. He always owned and cared for one or more and enjoyed volunteering at the Valley Animal Hospital. He was also a volunteer for the Waterville Fire Department. Dave loved and had a good knowledge of the world of sports and spent a lot of his free time competing and later watching and discussing various games. He never lost his competitive spirit which he demonstrated as he would loudly protest officials that would make a questionable call against his beloved Chicago Bears, Bulls and Baltimore Orioles. He enjoyed competing in various fantasy leagues. In the past, Dave volunteered his time and assisted with local basketball and football teams in the Valley area. He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Jarvis) Alferink; stepdaughter, Yvette (Shon); grandchildren, Janiessa (Jeff), Shondré (Justice); 3 great-grandchildren, Akira, Amari and Aiven; godson, Makaii, all of Beechville; sisters, Julie, Darlene and Ilene, all of Ontario; brothers, Timothy and Robert; many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are under the care of T.J. Tracey, Cremation and Burial Specialists, Halifax, Nova Scotia. There will be a graveside Service on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 3:00 pm. at Beechville Baptist Church, 1135 St. Margaret's Bay Road, Beechville, Nova Scotia.
