Old Friend and Sailor Matey, beginning 1982 of David Alferink.
Yesterday I was given the news that my friend passed away some time ago in 2020.
I am sorry for this late message however I wanted you and the family to know that I did post to (FB) HMCS MACKENZIE crew group, Sonar Op group, military retirement group and another named Tiller Flats group many men and women of the DND Canadian Armed Forced who herd of his passing and wrote RIP David as well as other comments.
I just wanted you to know he was a valued member of the RCN, (Royal Canadian Navy) as a (SONARMAN) sailor mate and good friend.
I apologize for this late message to you and the family.
Prayers for you all.
I recall all his laughter, his WWF wrestling onboard ship, his extensive sports knowledge of the stats of every player LoL, omg, Dave stop ... please stop, your killing me by knowing too much lmao. His huge fear of being caught as a Tadpole onboard ship from the shellbacks ha! ha! he even brought his bunk mattress down into the Sonar compartment on four Deck transmitter room and barricaded the door so nobody would get him. Good luck Dave, he was unsuccessful and eventually was captured :) I will remember you Dave always....

I had the pleasure of working with Dave on many courses and projects while in the Navy. He could always be counted upon to make you laugh. I especially would howl at his “Simpson” reenactments. I am sad to only find out about your passing almost 2 years later. My very best to the family. He was a good man with a great spirit of both adventure and comedy.

We live down the Lane from Dave. Dave always had a smile on his face and always enjoyed our talks when we met on our morning walks. Dave loved his cats and had to make a special visit recently to meet our new kitten. The last time I saw Dave he was stacking his winter wood. It's hard to walk by Dave's house without thinking of him. We will miss him. Rest in Peace Dave

We live in the same neighborhood as Dave in Maplewood. Met him when he purchased Harold & Daisy’s home, which he immediately began renovating, enjoying his cats, the woods, walks around the neighborhood & to the lake. Although he had been gone for a bit to NB, it was nice to see him come back to the lake.
We were all so shocked when Dave passed so quickly. He’ll be missed, especially by his surrounding neighbors.
Take some comfort that Dave had a good life, short.. .. but he had no suffering.
Sending love ❤️ & sympathy to his family.

We met Dave shortly after he bought and moved into Harold and Daisy’s old place. He was very friendly and took to our dog Fergus even though he loved to give chase to the cats. He visited my David regularly getting home renovation advice and asking for the occasional hand hanging doors and windows. We missed him when he went to NB to work and I liked how he would come out on the deck in the morning to say hello to Fergs and I as we did our early morning walk each day. He was a good neighbor and he will certainly be missed.
