Of Halifax, age 66, passed away on June 18, 2020 surrounded by the love of his immediate family after keeping cancer at bay for more than seven years. A loving husband, dedicated father and avid outdoors man, Les could usually be found hiking, playing tennis or entertaining friends and family aboard his boat. He was a past member of Bedford Basin Yacht Club, Dartmouth Yacht Club and current member of Armdale Yacht Club. Born in Cape North, Les spent time living on both Canadian costs before settling in Halifax to raise his family. Les enjoyed a 35-year career with Nova Scotia Power retiring as a Systems Operator in the Ragged Lake control room. He maintained close friendships with his coworkers and family are grateful for their ongoing support. Les is survived by, and will be greatly missed by, his wife Diane (Matheson); children, Mark (Lindsay) Gwynn and Allison (James) Shea. He was Grampie to his darling granddaughters, Abigail Shea and Parker and Ainsley Gwynn. Left to mourn his passing are his mother, Mildred Gwynn; and sister, Karen MacDonald of Cape North; his sister-in-law, Donna Matheson; and brothers-in-law, Bob and Doug (Leslie) Matheson all of Halifax. He will be missed by his many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephew. Les was predeceased by his father, Wendell; and sister, Doreen in infancy. The family sends a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff of the QEII Oncology Center and Hospice Halifax who provided exceptional care and to our family Doctor David MacNeil. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lester's memory to Hospice Halifax. Family also wish to express their gratitude for the kindness extended to them by family and friends. The daily supportive phone calls, the gifts of food, flowers, cards, plants, running errands and a beautiful painting helped the family through this extremely difficult time. You all hold a very special place in our hearts. Arrangements entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
