Roy Archibald King 1928-2020 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Roy King 91 of Glace Bay on Monday, March 30, 2020 at the Glace Bay General Hospital. Born in Glace Bay on May 1, 1928, he was the only son of the late Arthur and Viola (Phillips) King of Barbados. Roy will be fondly remembered by all who knew him as a gentleman with a great sense of humour. He was employed as a coal miner with Devco until his retirement in 1986 at No. 26 and Lingan Colliery. He enjoyed carpentry, gardening, baseball and hockey. Roy played on various sport teams, and was the Coach of the Devco Colliery League. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, until his health made it impossible for him to attend. Dad was a loving father and the best grandfather, who loved spending time with his granddaughter. Roy is survived by his two daughters; Linda-Lee (Halifax), and Kim (Robert) , Glace Bay, his precious granddaughter Kiana MacDonald, and his former wife Violet King. He is also survived by his sister Shirley, niece Sharon and grandniece Amanda and family, as well as many cousins in Ontario. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Staff of Three South, as well as the Staff of Four North at Glace Bay General Hospital, for their wonderful care and compassion during Roy’s stay. We would also like to give a Special Thank you to New Waterford Home Care and VON for the care and support that allowed Dad to remain in his home for many years. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, there will be no visitation or service at this time. A graveside service will be held at a later date under the direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, 902-849-4199.
