In celebration of an amazing life, we the family of Grace Phyllis Stanford, announce her peaceful passing at the Dartmouth General Hospital on February 18, 2020 at the age of 91. Grace was born on December 19, 1928 in Glace Bay. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Walter and her cherished parents, Archie and Catherine MacKeigan. She is survived by her sons, Paul (Kathy), Dartmouth; and Alan (Sally), Truro; and her grandchildren Laura (Andrew), Charlottetown, PEI; and Mark (Katrina), Vancouver, B.C. Grace was intelligent, friendly, and beautiful inside and out. Grace graduated from Glace Bay High and Provincial Normal College in Truro and worked as a teacher. She was a member of Newsom United Church and later Grace United Church. She was an active member of Newsom UCW for many years. Grace had wonderful memories from Ingonish (summer and winter), Mira, Florida and Bangor shopping trips. She enjoyed local tea/sales and craft shows attending many over the years. Grace and Walter lived in Glace Bay for 55 years before moving to Dartmouth to be closer to family. In Dartmouth, Grace loved gathering her family together every Sunday for dinner, where we enjoyed her wonderful cooking and baking (Grace had a sweet tooth!). She made a wonderful prime rib roast dinner which she continued well into her 80’s. Her favorite times were when we were all together as a family. Grace had a wonderful memory and all who knew her will miss her storytelling of times past. ♥ In the past two years at Parkland she participated in the book club, adult coloring, rummoli, church services, movies, bingo, musicals and much more. She very much enjoyed her life there, including the staff and the new friends she met. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Interment/graveside service will be held at a later date in Oakfield Cemetery, Cape Breton.
