Daniel Peter Marangoni
Daniel Peter 'Dan' Marangoni, 87, of Glace Bay Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2020 at the Glace Bay Hospital after a brief illness.
Dan was born in Glace Bay on September 13, 1932. He attended St. Anne’s School from Primary until Grade twelve, graduating near the top of his class in 1950 and attended Teachers College in Truro Nova Scotia where he met the love of his life, Marguerite, (whom he married in 1955) and taught briefly on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia until returning to his beloved Glace Bay in 1954. He worked various jobs for the next number of years until he started a new position as the Co-operators Insurance Sales Agent in 1965 where he worked until his retirement in 1994.
Dan was an admired agent with the Co-operators, known and respected for always putting his clients first. Besides his tremendously successful career with the Co-operators, Dan was actively involved in the Credit Unions in Glace Bay, the Knights of Columbus, and Holy Cross Parish. Dan was a long serving and valued board member for the Coady Credit Union for over 50 years. Dan loved to tinker – he was the consummate jack-of-all-trades and thoroughly enjoyed being a backyard mechanic, plumber, and carpenter. He willingly and enthusiastically helped anyone who showed up in his yard with their cars, bikes, mowers, and cheerfully assisted friends and family (wherever they were) with their home improvement projects.
Dan is survived by his wife of almost 65 years Marguerite, sons Martin (Sandy), Gerry (Cindy), daughter Marie, cherished friend who was like his son Michael Mleczko (Lina), grandchildren Chris, Rodger, Anthony, Matthew, and Jonathan, his sister Genevieve (Shediac NB) and brother Martin (Nanaimo BC), and numerous nieces and nephews from across Canada.
Dan is preceded in death by his mother Mary Catherine (MacMullin), Father Martino, sisters Lenora (Ucluelet BC), Virginia (Mission BC), Gloria (Cowichan BC), and infant daughter Mary.
Visitation will be at TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, (902 849-4199), from 6-8 p.m., on Sunday, February 16, 2020. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
“When God saw that you were tired,
And a cure was not to be,
He put his arm around you
And whispered come to me."
