I was saddened to hear about the passing of Jane. I worked with her at Sacred Heart and I always enjoyed working with her students because her class was always the best behaved in the school. This was because Jane was a dedicated teacher who cared about her students. She was also a wonderful friend who would help you out if she could. I will miss you dearly and I hope you Rest In Peace my friend. To her family, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Dear Stephenson family, I am sending my thoughts and prayers your way during this very difficult time. I will always remember the time Jane invited my husband and I over for supper up in Ontario when I first started teaching. It was a fun East Coast night to say the least. Jane was a very close friend to one of the custodians (Adriano) in our Catholic Board. When I told him the sad news he was very shocked and asked me to send his condolences. Adriano is an elderly retired custodian who would always ask me when I ran into him if I ever see Jane. His face would light up talking about the good times they shared. I also enjoyed the times I would run into her up in Ontario and especially back in Dominion on our summer vacation. We lost another great person but Heaven sure gained one.

It is with tremendous sadness that I say goodbye to a very dear friend and former colleague. The first day I met Jane I had just moved to Sacred Heart School to join the primary division. She was so welcoming and giving and we soon became close friends. I will always remember her love of a nice meal, a good glass of wine and friends to share in her laughter. Jane’s love of all things Christmas was wonderful- she was like a little kid herself. Every year she would bake little goodies and package them for me to take home on the holidays for my kids. I will never forget her yummy chocolate covered cherries! Jane was a true friend, someone you could count on to provide unconditional support when you needed it most. Even when she moved out to Nova Scotia to retire with her beloved family, our connection never ended. Jane taught me a huge lesson about strength. From the moment of her first diagnosis until the end, Jane showed amazing resilience. She always said to me “Live each day like it’s your last!” A lesson I will carry with me forever. Jane, I imagine you looking down on us, walking on your own peaceful beach oasis. I thank you so much for your friendship. I will miss you dearly. My deepest condolences to the Stephenson family.

Ms. Stephenson was my grade 1 and 2 teacher, many years ago. She taught myself and my two brother years before I can along. She was also from the same area my parents are from in Cape Breton. I always loved that connection with her. My mom told me a story this year at Christmas that I once stole one of her Cape Breton figurines and brought it to Ms. Stephenson as a Christmas present. My mom didn’t have the heart to ask for it back but knew that it was with someone who would have appreciated it as much as she did. Ms. Stephenson was always my favourite teacher (and it wasn’t just because of her treasure chest full of toys and candy)! She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed. Xoxx.
