I'm deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Fred Whyte. Fred & Joyce were a very positive part of mine as well as hundreds/thousands of children of Glace Bay through their work with Boy Scouts(Beavers,Cubs, etc.) Fred was always a positive motivator and always focused on building confidence, respect & kindness in his kids.
In recent years I've always loved seeing Fred, Joyce, Beth & Family as customers at the Dairy Queen in Sydney. Fred & Joyce would often ride in on their motorcycles. You could always tell how much Fred enjoyed life and I'm certain he lived it to the fullest while trying to bring out the best in those around him.
Fred Whyte was a class act all the way and so many of us were lucky to have people like Fred(& Joyce) in our life.
Prayers to the family as they grieve, Heaven just gained one heck of a handy angel.
Clint Corbett & Family.

I am very sorry to hear this. I first got to know Fred through the Scouting Movement. Then many years later he hired me to work at Harbax for a Summer. He truly loved interacting with people and building the Scouting Movement. He was a class act. I remember his witty and creative sense of humour. A very caring and community minded person. Thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.

Joyce, Beth....I was surprised and saddened to hear of Fred's passing. I know how difficult this time must be for both of you, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Fred was such a wonderful person and I feel grateful that I got to know and work closely with him through Scouting. Fred always had a smile on his face and goodwill in his heart and was ready to tackle any task big or small. To me he was a shining example of what a true Scouter should be. He will be missed. To Fred's family, please accept my deepest sympathies on Fred's passing. I think I've known Fred all my life - from babies in St. Paul's Church, through the teen years, in Morrison High and when he went to work with Grant and Betty at Harbax. Fred was a nice boy and a nice man. My heart goes out to his family today. Rest in peace, Fred.
