Seeton, Evelyn Marie (May) (Marriott) ****SERVICE UPDATE: A celebration of life will take place Saturday, January 25th , 2-5 pm. at the Fairview Legion Branch #142 50 Hillcrest Street.**** Evelyn passed away January 14th , 2020, at the age of 75 in Halifax, after a short battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Ernest E. May, formally of Belleoram, NL, and Sarah Elizabeth May(Taylor), formally of Grole, NL. Mom grew up in Fairview (and still lived there). In her younger years, she was very involved in St. John’s Anglican Church, Fairview, as a choir member, a Sunday School teacher, a Girl Guide, a Guide r and a District Commissioner for The Girl Guides of Canada. We thought mom was a wonderful pianist (though she doubted the wonderful part). When her girls were young, her sewing skills were put to use making majorette uniforms or matching outfits. A very avid reader, Mom would cozy up all weekend to read a novel. When married to her first husband Wayne, the family enjoyed many years at Murphy Lake, Kings Co.; boating, snowmobiling and making life long friends. We called her “Mom” or “Nanny”, but her nicknames were ‘The English Police” or “The Jeopardy Queen”. How ironic that she got diagnosed with the same cancer as Alex, and passed away on the day of the finale for “The Greatest of All Time” challenge. She was also the “Family Historian” to her extended family. The Fairview Historical Society, valued her knowledge of what was, where it was, when it was, and who it was. She was also a member of Fairview Legion Branch #142 and enjoyed many social gatherings there over the years. A graduate of Halifax Vocation al School, Evelyn s career spanned over 30 years in the life insurance and investment field. She finished her career retiring from CIBC Wood Gundy. Surviving are her daughters Lisa (Marriott) Potts, (the late Rodney), Hopewell, NS and Susan (Marriott) Coolen (Chris), Williamswood, NS. She is also survived by her brother, Ernie May (Sheila Messervey MacDow), Middle Cornwall, NS. Also surviving are grandsons, Josh Coolen (Rebecca Mercer), Pennant, NS and Brad Coolen, Williamswood, NS. Evelyn also leaves behi nd her step son, Reg Seeton Jr (Alison Cox), Vancouver, BC, step daughter, Ruth Daley Slade (Peter), Herring Cove, NS, step grandaughter, Sarah Slade Doucette (Brian) West Pennant, NS, step great grandson, Jayce Doucette, her loving chosen great grandsons, Nathanael, Joshua, Luke and Logan. She was the cherished niece of Norman and Amelia Crewe (Halifax), and Auntie to many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Reg Sr, her brother, Wayne May, her sister in law, Bernice (Hibbetts) May, and her son in law, Rodney Potts. Mom will be missed by many childhood friends, friends she made from work, or ones she made along the way. Her daughters will miss their “Mother Daughter” adventures that brought them many cherished memories and laughs. She taught us well on how to find great bargains. Mom was our rock and confidant. All the many family and friends that loved her, are a testament to her kind heart and quick wit. No funeral by request. A celebration of life will take place Saturday, January 25 th , 2 - 5 pm. at the Fairview Legion Branch #142 50 Hillcrest Street. Donations can be made in Evelyn's memory to the QEII Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit; by calling 902 334 1546; or, online at www.qe2foundation.ca, please specify Palliative Care.
