Lena Marie Sweeney Gardiner Mines It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt and friend. Lena passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 12,2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, An Cala Unit. Lena was born in Dominion, she was the loving daughter of the late John and Isabell (Campbell) McIntyre. Lena will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sons; Wayne, Darren (Helen); her pride and joy, her three grandchildren, Danielle, Olivia and James; her brother Bernie; her special niece Carol Gordon; her good friends Omar and Tina MacPherson and Donnie Gardner. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband Martin Sweeney; sisters Annie ( Donnie), Vangie (Lawrence), Mary (Art), Colista (Tom), Margaret (Joseph); brothers Daniel (Ann), John (Edna), Cecil and Harvey, sister-in-law Carol. Special thanks to the staff on 4D and An Cala Unit. Donations may be made in Lena’s memory to the An Cala Unit, Hospice or VON. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place under the direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Parish, Bridgeport , at 11 a.m., with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Reception to follow.
