We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Eddie. Ed has been a part of our family for as far back as we can remember and we shared a lot of good times from family get togethers, fishing, camping, berry picking, etc.
We got our start in life when we moved to Ontario to find work and four of us shared an apartment in Hamilton while we worked in the steel industry. Suppertime was always interesting as Ed was well noted for his famous mulligan stews which he would put together with whatever was on hand in the fridge, which more often than not, was very little. No one among us could cook anything that could even remotely be described as edible, but Ed could and did create some spectacular meals. We certainly looked forward to dinnertime.
Ed was incredibly kind and good to all of us especially to our mum and would visit her often to check in on her and to chat and keep her company. Mom has a sweet tooth and Ed always brought her treats much to her delight. Coming home to Glace Bay will never be the same again as Ed was always a significant part of our lives.
On a personal note, Ed thanks again for putting your life at risk by coming to my rescue and pulling me out of the Grand River when I most certainly would have drowned had it not been for you. I owe you a debt of gratitude I can never repay.
Adieu mon bon ami, till we meet again.
