Obituary of John ‘Jay’ Gerald McNeil

John Gerald ‘Jay’ McNeil Reserve Mines It is with great sadness that we the family, announce the passing of Jay McNeil, age 82, on Sept. 29, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy battle with dementia. Besides his parents, John Charles and Margaret (McDonald) McNeil, he was predeceased by brothers, Yomi, Dee, Charlie, Leo, Melvin and sisters Johnina, Mildred and infant sister Katie. He is survived by his sons, John (Kim), Reserve Mines, Michael (Marsha), Gardiner Mines, Sheldon (Ann), Ontario, Keith (Roseanne), Ontario, Billy (Donna), Sydney; his daughter, Lois (Dannie), Dartmouth; his brothers, Nashe, Ontario, Boe (Florence), Coxheath, Jerry (Terri Lynn), Dominion; his sister Renee, Ontario; he is also survived by 14 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. Jay retired from DEVCO due to an accident. He later worked as a carpenter, building homes and doing repairs. Jay loved talking to his friends on the CB set and was well known for his ability to repair radios. In Jays latter years, he lived with his son Michael and daughter-in-law, Marsha in Gardiner Mines. During this time, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and meeting people while walking on Dominion Beach. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday Oct 2,2018 at 11 am immediately followed by a funeral service at 12 pm with Father Daniel Boudreau officiating at TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS, (902-849-4199) A special thank you to the staff of Celtic Court and all who supported Jay in his journey with dementia.
