Obituary of Gary Walter Hollett

Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Hollett, Gary Walter, 75 passed away peacefully on November 13th, 2019 at the QEII Infirmary in Halifax with his daughter Christine, and friend Frances Gibb by his side.

Son of the late Gordon and Jeanne (Hartling) Hollett, and former husband of the late Marilyn (McLeod). Gary grew up in Halifax, attending Quinpool Road School, Chebucto Road School, Queen Elizabeth High School and Halifax Vocational School. Gary worked as a systems analyst at Maritime Telegraph & Telephone Company for 35 years, and enjoyed being a crossing guard at Quinpool Rd and Beech St after his retirement.

Gary volunteered for many years as a civilian extra with the Nova Scotia International Tattoo. He loved to travel, enjoyed photography and attending AAA Hockey games, and could often be found wandering the Halifax waterfront, playing at the Casino, or having coffee with his friends at their favourite Tims.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen; daughter Christine (Tim Hannon); and step-grandson James.

Over the last few years Gary battled cancer, and lived with determination to make the best of what time he had left. He will be missed by his friends and extended family, and will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour, and kind, generous nature.

A Celebration of Life, officiated by Rev. Vivien Hannon, will be held at T.J. Tracey’s on Saturday November 30th, 2019 starting at 12:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the QEII Heath Sciences Centre Foundation.
