Joseph ‘Joe’ Kelly
Glace Bay
It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph Kelly announces his passing on November 16, 2019 at the QE II Hospital in Halifax. Joe was born to Joseph and Mary (Butts) Kelly in 1943 and lived his life in Glace Bay as a volunteer Firefighter and Painter.
His favorite times were spent fishing at the wharf, cheering for the Patriots, and hosting an endless stream of family and friends at his bar where colorful stories were shared, and laughter was plentiful. Everyone was welcome and no one was ever in a rush to leave. Joe was known for his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand. He felt hard work was honorable and his quiet strength was an anchor for all that knew him. Above all else, Joe was most proud of his family.
He is survived by this loving wife of 47 years, Beryl (MacNeil) and the strength of their marriage and commitment to one another was the greatest gift they gave to their children, Derek (Cathryn), Halifax and Susan(Dave), New Glasgow. Joe is also survived by his grandchildren, Owen, Joey and Ciara; brother Walter; sisters Helen, Rose, Sandy, Karen and Debbie; many dear nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by many cherished family members who we take solace in knowing met him to complete his journey.
Joe’s family would like to express sincere and deep thanks for the exceptional care and support provided by all the medical staff at the QEII. Joe would like us to remember him with a smile.
Cremation has taken place.
