Obituary of Douglas Joseph Michael MacIntyre

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Joseph Michael MacIntyre (81), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, at the Melville Lodge Long Term Care Centre, Halifax, on November 8, 2019. Doug was born December 5, 1937 in Inverness, Cape Breton, NS, a son of John and Gladys (Kelly) MacIntyre.
Doug had a diverse career working for the CN Railway, United Parcel Service, as an Ironworker in New Jersey and California, and as a small business owner/operator of a home services business (Rain Master Ltd.) in Halifax for over 40 years. He had a lifelong love for golf and won a Senior Men’s Championship at Fox Hollow Golf Club, Stewiacke, NS. He enjoyed music and loved singing with his brothers (the 3 Macs), singing in the church choir, singing in the community singing group the Chebuctones, and for 27 years he and his wife Judy sang with the Chebucto Community Singers. He served in various community volunteer groups including 5 years as a volunteer firefighter for the Herring Cove and District Fire Department. He was a faithful and devoted member of the Halifax Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served for many years in various capacities, concluding with his service as Bishop of the Halifax Ward. Doug was a devoted husband and father and was always happiest surrounded by family.
He is survived by his beloved wife Judith Margaret Mary Brackett (Judy); children Doug Jr. (Donna) of Herring Cove, Scott (Jennifer) of Beaumont Alberta, and Kerri (Josh) Touesnard of Herring Cove; grandchildren Shannon, Jared, Jason, Justin, Felix, Jeffrey, Joshua, Ava and Riley; sisters Helen (late Rollie) and Margo (Francis), brothers Joe (late Barbara), Rick (Jackie), Gerry (Millie), Gordon (Wendy), Donnie, and Michael; and many nieces and nephews; He was predeceased by his sisters Barbara (late Ken), Patsy (John), Marie, Marilyn (Colin), brother Jack (Viola), and parents John and Gladys (Kelly) MacIntyre.
The funeral service will take place Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 3pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints - 205 Lacewood Drive, Halifax.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jabeen and all nursing and support staff at Melville Lodge Long Term Care Centre in Halifax for their kind and exceptional care during Doug’s time there.
