James “Jim” Duncan O’Neill
Glace Bay
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Jim O’Neill, age 81, at the QE11 Hospital, Halifax on October 26, 2019.
Born and raised in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Howard and Anna (MacKay) O’Neill.
He was well known in the hockey community both as a player with Junior and Senior teams and associated with minor hockey. He was inducted in the Glace Bay Sports Hall of Fame. Jim loved the horses and harness racing was his passion. He was not one to back away from work. He was always working on something, especially in East Bay at the bungalow. Jim was employed with Devco for over 35 years and was well known in that circle.
Jim is survived by his best and closest friend, Doris Harper; son, Howie O’Neill; daughter, Donna Marie (Mike) Catoul; brothers, Reg (Jean), Lorne(Lynn); sister, Annette (Joe) Culligan; three grandchildren, Jason, Jenna and Jackson; two great grandchildren, Morgan and Rylan as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant brother, Kevin; daughter-in-law, Margaret O’Neill.
The family would like to thank the nurses at the QE11 6.1, the nurses at Intensive Care, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the medical staff at the QE11 and the CBRH for your care. Thanks to Rob Burrows and Debbie Roach for your care and support.
No flowers please. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
