It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Florence Willigar, age 90, on October 15,2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John J. And Catherine (McManus) MacDonald.
Florence worked for Upper Lakes Shipping Company for 26 years as chief cook, before retiring to move back to Cape Breton. During her life on the boats she made many wonderful friendships which lasted throughout her life.
Because of her keen mind and strong determination Flo was able to live independently in her own home until the day she went to the hospital due to a fall.
Flo is survived by her two brothers, Doug (Tootsie) MacDonald, New Waterford, Mike (Ursula) MacDonald, Reserve Mines; sister-in-law, Ann MacDonald as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Carl Willigar; sisters, Mary Margaret MacDonald and Catherine Mae (Jim) Dowling; brother, John Peter MacDonald, nephews, Robert and Tommy MacDonald.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11: 00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2019 at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199) with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. The burial to follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
