Obituary of Viola Loretta Smith

Viola Smith, age 92 of Bedford, passed away on September 25, 2019.

Born in Canso on April 3, 1927, she was the only daughter of John & Martha (Boudreau) King.

Prior to her marriage she was employed with Revenue Canada, HMC Dockyard. As the wife of a military man, she spent most of her married life in Western Canada, Winnipeg, Regina, Chilliwack, Fort Nelson & Calgary. She was employed at Eatons in Winnipeg & Calgary for several years. She returned to Nova Scotia when her husband retired in 1984 and they settled in New Minas where she was an active member of St Joseph’s CWL. Her husband Ivan passed away in 1992 and the following year she moved to Bedford. Viola enjoyed reading & writing poetry for friends on special occasions. She also loved dancing and continued to dance well into her eighties. 

Besides her parents, husband, cousins & in laws, she was predeceased in 2011 by her best friend & long time companion Vernon Westhaver. 

She leaves to mourn her passing, her sons Gordon (Nancy) and Steven (Grace) her granddaughter Heather (Chris) Willard and her great grand children Blake & Jasmine Willard of Fergus Ontario.

Cremation has taken place. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:15 on Tuesday October 1, 2019, at St Ignatius Church, 1288 Bedford Highway, Bedford, with a reception to follow in the church hall.

Private family burial at Steam Mill Cemetery.
