It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our loving husband and father at the QE11 Hospital, Halifax on September 24, 2019.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Dolores and Joseph Poirier. Blaine was a devoted and loving husband and father, who will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Blaine, an electrician by trade, worked as a coal miner and underground mining supervisor for nearly 20 years. He began his mining career at #26 and finishing at Prince Mine in 2001.
He was a draegerman team member winning multiple mine rescue competitions. He was awarded the Medal of Bravery for his role as a draegerman for the Westray mine explosion.
Blaine also worked as a landscaper and was owner/operator or Poirier's Nursery. He was currently employed by the CBVR School Board.
Blaine is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sonya (Nicholson) Poirier; son, Andrew (Renelle); two brothers, Joe (Nan) and Vaughn (Tanya); father and mother -in-law, Eric and Nina Nicholson; sisters-in-law, Elana (Greg) Tynski, Debbie (Lloyd) Theuerkauf, Anna-Marie (Shane) McLaughlin; brothers-in-law, Jim (Andrea), Joe (Glenna), Bill (Mary Lee) and David (Kelly Meyer) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Blaine was predeceased by his parents and stepfather, Joe LeBlanc.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Church, Main St., Reserve Mines, with Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating. Interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations in Blaine’s memory may be made to the C.B. Cancer Center, Patient Care Fund.
