Obituary of Alfred Jon Corey

Corey, Alfred Jon (Jon) - Age 81 of Bedford, NS passed away on September 20th, 2019 at the QEII Hospital in Halifax, NS.
Born in Campbellton, NB he was the son of the late Alfred J. and Dorothy Corey of Edmundston, NB.
Jon attended school at a young age at Horton Academy which later led to his life in Nova Scotia. He was employed by Northern Telecom and then worked for Maritime Tel & Tel, which then became Aliant, until his retirement. He did a few years after retirement with TARA (Telecom Applications Research Alliance). Jon was a long time resident of Hammonds Plains and was known by many. He was involved in the Hammonds Plains Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years but also loved to drop in to the local businesses and chat with everyone he encountered. He enjoyed golf and also had a passion for gardening.
He is survived by his only daughter Brenda (Corey) Dauphinee, her husband Lonnie Dauphinee and one grandson Joshua Dauphinee, all of Bedford, NS, Andrew and Christy Cameron and their children Ben, Ryder and Griffin, of Halifax who are the family of the late Maureen Cameron as well as nephews and nieces James Haynes, Patti Andrews, Jon Haynes and James Blackburn.
Jon is predeceased by his wife Sylvia (Blackburn) Corey, his partner Maureen Cameron, and his sister Sally Haynes.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 28th, 2019 from 3:30-6:30pm at the Hammonds Plains Community Center at 2041 Hammonds Plains Road. Interment at a later date in Brookside Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the QE2 Hospital to support the great nursing staff on the 8th floor.
Jon shared a special fondness (and a birthday) with Gordon Lightfoot. He had many close friends and family who will miss him dearly.
