Obituary of Gwendolyn Phyllis Pero

Gwendolyn Phyllis Pero (nee Holmes), 80, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2019, at the VG Hospital in Halifax.  Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of George and Emelene Holmes (Mombourquette). 

Gwen was a student at Oxford Street School and St. Pat's High School.  She later worked as a telephone operator for MT&T and then in Personnel at Sears Canada until her retirement.  In her younger years, Gwen was an avid bowler and loved to play darts, and won many trophies.  Gwen loved spending time with her family.  She looked forward to her Em's Femmes weekends, sister lunches, and loved having her family over for Sunday dinners.  Mom's turkey stuffing was so delicious that everyone would fight over who got the last portion.  Her beautiful smile will be missed by all who knew her.

Gwen is survived by her loving daughter, Jo-Ann Souchereau (Kelly), brothers George (Brenda), Gerald (Linda) and Patrick (Sylvia), and sisters Joan (Stan) MacDonald, Donna (Stan) Hennigar, and Sharon (Bruce) Riley.  She was a proud nanny to her grandchildren Harrison and Katherine, who were her world.  She was Aunt Gwen to several nephews and nieces.  She is also survived by many beloved extended family members and dear friends.  She was predeceased by her parents, George and Emelene, as well as her former husband, John Pero.

A celebration of Gwen's life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Wesleyan Church, 1215 Hammonds Plains Road, Pastor Denn Guptill officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VG Hospital Palliative Care Unit 7A. 

Many thanks are extended to the Palliative Care Team at the VG Hospital for providing such wonderful care to mom.  To the nurses, your kindness and compassion means more than words can say.
