Earle MacKiggan Wadden
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Earle MacKiggan Wadden, announce his passing, on September 17th 2019, surrounded by his family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, An Cala.
Born on May 14th 1929, in Port Morien, he was the youngest son of the late James (Bud) Wadden and Gertrude (Spencer) Wadden.
Dad was predeceased by his loving wife and soul-mate Naomi (Milley) Wadden, on May 14th 2010. He was also predeceased by his older brothers Freeman and Clare, and sister Doris (Wadden) Lewis.
Earle is survived by four loving children who had the privilege to call him Dad, Linda (Barry) Saunders of Dartmouth, James Wadden of Truro, Wendy Wadden of Sydney, and Erla (John) Eagles of Glace Bay. Along with his children, he is also survived by the four apples of his eye, Kaitlyn Eagles (Gerald Sudworth), Joshua Eagles, Candace Theberge (Jesse Snow), and Bridget Wadden (Matt Dunham). Dad was a proud great-grampy to twin boys, Liam and Caellum Snow, of Fort McMurray. He was "Uncle Earle" to nieces and nephews, especially Roberta "Bobby" Butterworth, in later years.
He will also be sincerely missed by his "Fur grand-babies" Chloe, Lainey and Levi.
Dad was employed in the construction industry his entire life, forming many great friendships, and was particularly proud of the business he built as the owner and operator of Wadco Roofing, in Sydney.
He served on many boards (too many to mention). Dad, was a beloved member of the Thistle Lodge No.36 in Port Morien for 55+ years. Dad was proud to be a Shriner and a Jester. He was especially proud of the work done to assist children and their families, during his years as a Shriner.
Earle had a deep love for his family, but also for the game of golf where he earned the nickname Pipeline. He had numerous dear friends with whom he enjoyed playing golf, especially the late Garfield Andrews and the late Gerry Marsh.
Dad was a very kind, and caring man, who found pleasure in helping anyone out in time of need. He was known to raise funds for our local food banks through golf tournaments, which he helped organize.
Our thanks goes out to all of those who were able to visit dad, while he was in hospital, and to those who sent messages of love and support with special thanks to his golfing partner, Jackie Hines.
We want to extend our thanks for the wonderful care that he received from the staff and physicians at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, especially those in the Emergency Room, and Palliative Care Unit.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, September 20th 2019, from 2:00-4:00PM and 7:00-9:00PM. A service will follow, on Saturday,
September 21st at 2:00PM. Rev. Dana Feltmate will preside and a reception will follow. All will be taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialist, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, NS
Donations can made to the Palliative Care Unit, Shriner's Foundation or your charity of choice, in memory of Earle.
