I am shocked to learn of Vernon's passing. I knew Vernon and his brother when, as kids, we entertained ourselves by exploring the vagaries of the emerging world that are now long gone. To say he was a character does not do him justice. He's gone but I have those memories that bring him to life. We will meet again, and that is good.

Denise and family
I loved working with Vern and enjoyed his “ matter of fact “ mannerisms
He was a true blue police officer, who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind
I only wish that we had more police officers of his caliber today
Please know that we are praying for you and his family
God speed my friend

My condolences to Denise and the rest of Vernon's family. Vernon was the person you wanted to be working with in tough situations and someone who you learned a lot from. I spent many shifts working with him when I was new to the job in both a patrol car or the wagon. Despite his attempts to show a tough exterior he actually had a good sense of humor and a sense of compassion. Very sorry to hear of his passing but he is someone who will be remembered by his friends and coworkers with warmth and respect.

To Vern's family,
A good man and a fine police officer. Well liked by the folks he worked with and did his job very well. The people of Halifax were well served by Vern.
My condolences to all of his family. After we leave the job we sometimes loose touch with the people we worked so I was surprised to learn Vern was ill and passed away. A great loss to his family.
Sincerely, Don Boudreau

Gary and I am going to miss you Vernon. Gary knew you much longer than I did but I will never forget your stories and our laughs. Every time I sit on the step in the garage and have my smoke I remember it was your spot first. I will never forget the story about you getting on the horse. Laughed so hard I hurt. And will always remember when you ate the horrible gingerbread I made and let on it was good
Can't believe we won't see the VW turning in the drive way. Rest now in peace our friend.

Lenny, Denice, Stella and John.
I was saddened to hear that Vernon had passed away. He had a rough summer but I had hoped he'd soon be well again.
We'll really miss Vernon in our community. He had a heart of gold, and looked out for many of his neighbours, wanting nothing in return. It made him happy to be able to help others.
He was very close to his brother and sisters and spoke fondly of them. I know you all will miss him too. And to his best friend John, I am so sorry for your loss. It was clear by the way he spoke of you how much he admired you. I'm glad he had such great people in his life.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss. I'm happy to have known him.
