R. Carmel (Coleman) Evasuk

Carmie slipped away peacefully, a few weeks prior to her 90th year at her temporary residence, Oceanview Manor in Eastern Passage, NS. Carmie’s life long home was Glace Bay, raised in the Sterling area of town to William and Macy (Jessome) Coleman in a loving household of 11 siblings; surviving Carmie are sister Rose and brother Adrian.

Her husband George passed in 2007. Grieving Carmie are daughter Debbie (George) Cameron, Blue Mountain ON; sons Darrell (Marion), Cole Harbour NS and John  (Sylvie),Ottawa ON. Mama Carmel had 6 grandchildren; Angela, Heather, Stefanie, Steven, Presli, Evan and 4 great grand children; Davy,Jorja,Caleb and Jack as well as many nieces and nephews.Upon her marriage in 1950, Carmie gave up a working career in favor of running the household and raising her family, which brought her  much joy.  Mom was an excellent homemaker, provider and mentor to everyone in her family, this was her first priority in life.  Carmie remained active throughout the years; Wednesday card club, skating, biking, walking and dancing to dishwashing music; she loved peddle boating and daily swims during her summers on The Mira, followed by a glass of wine. Mom had great pride of ownership which shone through in everything she did. Carmie and George recognized the importance of togetherness and built their legacy through the family cottage whichcontinues in Sangaree Cove to this day.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff and administration at Ocean View Manor in Eastern Passage; not only for their care but for caring. They were a wonderful extended family for the final few years of her life.

In respect of Mom’s quiet and unassuming demeanor there will be no visitation. Carmie passed away on August 19th; a service and post reception will be held at St.Anne’s Church, Glace Bay on August 23rd commencing at 10AM.
