It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of David William MacNeil, age 47, Monday August 12, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born on February 6th, 1972, in Etobicoke, Ontario, David was the son of John A. and Patsy (MacDougall) MacNeil of Glace Bay Nova Scotia.
David spent many years working in the oil fields of Alberta where he acquired his nickname “Pooky”, along with making many lifelong friendships. David loved his dart nights. He was an avid player in numerous leagues over the years, and took part in many tournaments with a great team of friends, all of who he adored. He was also an avid baseball player in his younger years, swinging bats on many fields throughout Cape Breton. David’s true passion was spending time with his family who he loved more than anything.
David is survived by his loving wife Laura (Pynn) MacNeil; daughters, Brianna and Jenna Guyomard; Victoria and Emily Pynn; parents, John A. and Pasty (MacDougall) MacNeil; grandson, Parker Guyomard; special nephew, Ryder Pynn, who loved spending time with his “Unca”; his furry companion, his yellow lab “Gabby”. Father-in-law, Raymond (Audrey) Pynn; mother-in-law, Dawn Barrett (Bernie McGuigan); siblings, Cory (Gina) MacNeil, Wanda Desveaux (AKA Sissy), Patti MacNeil, and John (Shayna) MacNeil; sisters-in -law; Alicia McIntyre (Scott Nichols), Leanne (Sydney) Morse, Deanna Pynn ‘Aunty Ditzzzy’ and brother-in-law Raymond Pynn (Maggie Hines) and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and his special godchild, Carolann Hennick.
David was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Hughie and Faustina MacDougall; paternal grandparents, John and Mary MacNeil, all of Glace Bay.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, August 16, 2019 from 11-1 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding all taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). A reception will follow at the South Bar Volunteer Fire Hall, 2148 New Waterford Highway, South Bar, NS (902-539-0163).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Cancer Patient Fund, or the Palliative Care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
