Born in New Glasgow, NS, he was a son of Irven John Barter and Edith May Baglole.
He is survived by son Eric John Barter; daughter Brianna Lee Barter; brothers Irven and Joseph Barter; grandchildren Joelen Burton, Brooklyn Burton, and Amelia Barter; as well as several nieces and nephews.
