Obituary of Jessie Annette Stoker

Dominion It is with saddened hearts that we the family announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and sister, Jessie Stoker on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Sydney surrounded by her family. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Catherine (Wilton) MacDonald. She lived in Glace Bay until 1967 moving to Dominion to raise her nine children as a young widow. Jessie was an avid skater, she walked the boardwalk everyday up until recent years. She attended exercise class, enjoyed a good book, loved to knit, sew and bake. She was employed at Rosemblums and taught nursery school for a short time. Jessie enjoyed travelling, she visited California, Ontario and B.C. to see family, and she travelled to the United States for Christmas shopping trips with her daughters. Jessie is survived by her children, Claire (Harvey) Boudreau, Glace Bay, Keith (Diane) Stoker, Ont., Norma (Victor) Tomiczek, Dominion, Gayle (Brian) MacGillivray, Antigonish, Arlene (Fred)Thorndyke, Ont., Cindy (Cyril) Tobin, B.C., Kathy Stoker, Sydney, Kim Stoker ( Wally Johnston), Dominion, Kenneth Stoker, B.C.; her brother, Don MacDonald. She is also survived by her 22 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Matthew Stoker; grandson Christopher Tobin; sisters, Pearl, Mildred, Lexie and Josie; brothers, Sanford, Herbie, Ronnie and Orville. Donations in Jessie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of choice. Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 12-2 p.m with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating at T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St. Glace Bay, N.S. ( 902-849-4199). The burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery, Glace Bay. The family would like to thank the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Dr. Boutilier and Dr. Smith for their care provided to our mother and a special thanks to the VON and the City Homemakers for your kindness and support given to our mother.
