Cecil Roy McComber, 84, of Catalone passed away July 2nd at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Unit.
Born in Glace Bay he was the son of Cecil and May(Rushton) McComber. Roy served in the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment from 1956-1961. He was a founding member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 73 and a proud member for 46 years. He moved to Catalone in the 1970’s where he and his wife ‘Bookie’ ran the Catalone General Store, which continues today. Roy enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing darts and especially driving his plow truck. He also liked going to ‘the club’ to see his friends and loved to dance.
Roy is survived by his wife Catherine “Bookie”(MacIntosh) McComber of 61 years; his children Gail(Sheldon), Kevin, Bruce(Amy) and daughter- in- law Connie Wadden; grandchildren; Barry(Amber), Teri(Kyle), Jessica(Kyle), Logan and Griffin; great grandchildren, Owen, Hannah and Eli.
Roy was predeceased by his parents Cecil and May McComber; brothers Bobby, Danny; sisters Shirley and Doreen.
Roy will also be missed by his Boilermaker Brother’s and Sister’s and the many friends he made over the years.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sat. July 6, 2019 from 12:30 to 1:30, with a service to follow at 1:30 p.m. at TJ Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199) Interment following the service in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit.
